A ridiculously easy apple pie recipe! This sugarless pie is perfect as breakfast, a light dessert after a big meal or a healthy snack for kids (and adults as well 😉).

Simple and healthy apple pie

There are a total of 5 ingredients to this apple pie and that is if you count salt and water! The result is a pastry consisting of a flaky crust and sweet apples. Since there is no added sugar at all, you’ll discover the real sweetness of apples and tons of flavor in every bite!

It is also the only dessert that gets 10/10 rating from my Monsieur. I could come up with the most elaborate patisserie and it still wouldn’t be enough to win against the simple apple pie😄.

The easiest apple pie recipe

Ingredients:

  • 100g butter
  • 250g flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • ~1/4 cup water
  • 5-6 apples (since I use no sugar elsewhere I usually choose semisweet apples like Pink Lady or Jonagold)

Instructions:

Stir salt into flour.

Using your fingers crumble together flour and butter.

Add water little by little until you can form a ball of dough that hold together.

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least half an hour.

Preheat the oven to 220C/425F.

Peel the apples, core them and slice in even half circles.

Roll out the dough, transfer it into your pie tin or directly on a baking sheet. I cover my baking tin with parchment paper or butter it thoroughly.

Place the apple slices on the dough.

Bake at 220C/425F for 35-45 minutes until the crust is fully baked.

Let cool a bit before serving since straight out of the oven the apples are dangerously hot.

If you have a sweeter tooth, you can serve this apple pie with a sweet custard or some vanilla ice cream.

This pie is a family favorite in our house and I hope it will delight you just as much.
