An immunity-boosting, cosy and delicious drink. Enjoy fall with this spicy apple tea that you can savor both as a hot drink or as an iced tea.

Spicy apple tea

I don’t know of a better way to make you feel all cosy in the chilly autumn evenings than a cup of steaming hot drink that preferably has a tiny punch to it. This spicy apple tea is definitely punchy and will give your body and your spirit the boost it needs to stand up to anything life throws at you.

As soon as the weather cools down a bit I could be drinking hot drinks all day long. I seem to have a mug in my hands constantly these days.

I first made this spiced apple tea last year. I wanted to use up some leftover apple juice from the fridge. I more or less put together all kinds of different things that I felt like at the moment, but the end result was really pretty great.

You should of course be careful not to drink too much black tea, but in moderation it can be really good for your health. The nutrients in black tea may reduce the risk of several cancers, protect the heart against atherosclerosis, and help maintain healthy blood pressure. Black tea may also lower blood sugar, reduce stroke risk and improve gut health. Kind of neat, isn’t it?

  • 1 L (~1/4 gallon) of water

  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 cloves
  • 5 star anises
  • 5 cm (1-2 in) piece of fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsps of honey

Instructions

Heat up the apple juice and water in a small saucepan.

Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves and star anis and let simmer for a couple of minutes.

Turn off the heat, then add sliced ginger, honey and tea bags.

Let steep for about 5 minutes and you have yourself a lovely autumn drink.

I’ve made this apple tea as a hot drink but also as an iced tea. Both are absolutely wonderful if I dare say so myself. And you can absolutely spike it up even more with some calvados or bourbon.
