Hot chocolate on a spoon

I first saw these in the most adorable café opposite the grand-duke’s castle in the old town of Luxembourg city. I had just moved there for my new job as an assistant and a friend of mine took me for a stroll to get to know the city a bit. Even though the Luxembourg’s old town is not as ancient as most of the European cities, the feeling of this café has something fairytale-like. Also, I immediately fell in love with the idea of these chocolate cubes that you can slowly melt by stirring them in your cup of hot milk.

These chocolate sticks are really easy to make, and you can create so many different beautiful styles. A lovely homemade gift idea in this holiday season!

Making of hot chocolate on a stick

You will need:

  • A mini muffin tray or an ice cube tray
  • Wooden tea spoons or wooden lollipop sticks. DO NOT use the sticks found in the crafts section!

Hot chocolate on a stick recipe

Ingredients:

  • 50g sweetened cocoa powder
  • 100g Sweetened condensed milk
  • 100g Heavy cream
  • 400g Bittersweet chocolate
  • Toppings of your choice : mini-marshmallows, crushed candy cane, holiday sprinkles, crushed toffee bits, dried fruit, etc.

Instructions

Chop the chocolate.

Heat the sweetened condensed milk and heavy cream in a saucepan until simmering (but not boiling!).

Pour the cream mixture over chocolate and stir until smooth and melted.

Fill the molds you are using to make the hot chocolate cubes.

Add the wooden sticks or wooden spoons in the center of each cube.

Decorate the tops to your liking. You can use anything you like. I used different colored sprinkles and mini-marshmallows this time.

Press slightly on the topping so that they will stick to the chocolate cube once it is hardened.
