A hot and spicy calamari salad is the best of two worlds: a light meal that is very filling and super delicious. An original but easy salad idea to change up the routine!

This warm salad is also a great meal prep recipe. You can make the salad base in advance and keep it in the refrigerator for up to three days. When ready to eat, you just pour the whole thing on a skillet, cook for a few minutes, add a chopped tomato and adjust seasoning. Ready and served in under 10 minutes!

Spicy calamari salad recipe

Ingredients

  • 350 g (12 oz) calamari or squid
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 red or yellow bell pepper
  • Red chili pepper
  • 50 g (1-2oz) black olives
  • Green onions
  • Parsley
  • Dill
  • 3 tbsps of olive oil
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1-2 tomatoes
  • Lemon juice

Instructions

You can use calamari rings or the whole squid cut in (approximately) equal sized pieces.

Chop the onion, garlic, bell pepper, chili pepper, olives and herbs.

Mix everything together, add olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Let rest in refrigerator for at least an hour and up to 3 days.

Before eating, cook the salad base in a skillet for 5-7 minutes depending on the size of squid pieces. Be careful not to overcook the calamari or it will become tough.

Pour the hot mixture in a salad bowl.

Add the tomato cut in cubes, a squeeze of lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Sprinkle on some fresh herbs and serve.
